African American History Online Modules
The African American History Online Modules were designed by WHRO in partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). These modules explore the African American experience from ancient Africa through modern times. The five modules address Ancestral Africa and the Atlantic world, the enslavement of Africans forcibly captured and brought to the Americas, the institution of slavery and the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era, the Civil Rights Era and modern voices of protest, and the social and political challenges and triumphs between 1619 and the present. In addition, the modules highlight the abundant contributions of African Americans to larger American society.
