Watch the 2025 Young Storytellers Awards Ceremony

It was a packed house recently in the WHRO Public Media studio as students, staff, teachers and families gathered to celebrate the winners of our annual PBS Kids Writers Contest.

Several weeks before the awards ceremony, our Blue Ribbon panel takes on the task of reading and scoring all the entries written by local students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The stories are judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling and integration of illustrations.

All students entering the contest receive a special PBS KIDS Certificate. First-place and second-place winners are selected in each grade level for each category. Additionally, many of the PBS KIDS Writers Contest stories are also featured on Ms. Martha Reads, a WHRO production that airs new episodes Fridays at 10 a.m. on Facebook.

WHRO recognizes the importance of allowing students to use their storytelling talents to spark creativity and develop critical thinking and written communication skills.

Congratulations to all of this year's winners!
