STEM Challenges for Snow Days: Simple Engineering Projects with a Winter Twist

With snow in the forecast for most of southeastern Virginia, kids are out of school. Wondering how to keep them active and learning? Toymeka Raymond, an elementary teacher in Newport News Public Schools and an eMediaVA Ambassador, shared some great ideas recently on the eMediaVA blog.

She highlighted several STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities that encourage children to think like engineers and scientists, fostering a love for exploration and discovery. Feb. 16-22 is National Engineers Week — there's no better time to explore this exciting career field!

In her blog post, you'll find these fun engineering projects:

  • Build a Marshmallow Igloo
  • Design a Snow Catapult
  • Waterproof a Boot
  • Grow Your Own Polar Bear

Find the simple instructions for these fun projects on the eMediaVA blog.
