Fundamentals of Virtual K-12 Teaching- 45hr

TECH570

School districts need highly-qualified educators who can meet the needs of all students in an online environment. A highly-qualified virtual teacher knows how to use the technology and tools for learning online, as well as how to build community, how to develop tone and voice, and how to effectively assess virtual students. This course has been specifically created to give you the tools you need to become an effective virtual teacher. You will learn about the national standards for quality online courses from iNACOL, SREB and the NEA, how to build community, strategies for working with virtual students, and assessment techniques. This course is a project-based learning experience, during which you will practice what you learn. As a final assignment, you will build an eLearning Toolbox with resources and materials you can use in your future virtual classroom experiences.

A graphic organizer - a visual display that demonstrates relationships between facts, concepts or ideas - can be just the right device to add rigor to any lesson. A graphic organizer potentially guides the learner's thinking as they fill in and build upon a visual map or diagram. This course will teach you how to create and effectively use electronic graphic organizers across content areas and grade levels! You will learn how to enhance student's organizational, communication and critical thinking skills through your use of this powerful tool for 21st Century learning.

TSIP Anywhere Anytime is a six-week online course that is an online adaptation of the ever popular Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (TSIP) Certification course that has been offered for years as a face-to-face class through the C.I.I. The purpose of this course is designed to assist Virginia Educators in exploring and developing expertise with the various aspects of telecommunications tools as well as model the ways in which these tools can be used for personal learning and for integration into the teaching/learning process. This course will focus on six main areas: beginning Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and beginning Internet.
