America's History in the Making: A Special Collection from Annenberg Learner - 45hr

Enrich your knowledge of American history and learn methods to bring history to life in the classroom. This course explores American history content and classroom applications, such as using digital primary sources and biographical accounts, through the integrated use of video, text, classroom activities, and Web-based interactives. Developed through a consortium of seven education service districts (ESDs) and area education agencies (AEAs) across the U.S., and in partnership with the National Center for History in the Schools and the Organization for American Historians, this course aligns with and supports state and district standards for American history. Simultaneously build content knowledge and explore new applications as you explore each era in American history from Pre-Columbian societies in North America through the Industrial Revolution to today's evolving society and America's position as a global superpower. Practice developing lesson plans and student assignments that incorporate digital primary sources and develop students' historical thinking skills.

Integrating Technology Into The Secondary Social Sciences Curriculum - 30hr

This course is designed to integrate a variety of instructional technologies with the state of Virginia Standards of Learning for secondary social sciences. Teachers will discover resources including primary sources, projects, lesson plans and interactive activities available for inclusion in classroom activities to bring social sciences alive for their students. Each week will focus on a specific type of technology, with participants applying the techniques to their area of focus. Learners will be encouraged to collaborate with others to design creative and original lesson plans, projects, rubrics or presentations. Learners should already have a basic foundation in instructional technical technology utilizing the Windows 98/2000/XP platform with Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP.

Points/Credit Hours: 30 recertification points (0 graduate credit)

Bridging World Histor: A Special Collection from Annenberg Learner- 45hr

This inquiry-based course will enable you to research and explore the world history concepts and resources that meet your curriculum and student learning needs. Delve into world history units provided by Annenberg Learner that explore global patterns through time, seeing history as an integrated whole with an eye to bringing world history concepts to life in the classroom. Develop essential questions and a framework based on your curriculum for your exploration and work through this course. Analyze primary source documents, artifacts, and expert videos and develop an instructional unit to implement with students that develops their historical thinking skills and brings the past to life in your classroom.

Note: This is a facilitated course. Learners submit coursework and participate in asynchronous discussions throughout the course term, and receive graded feedback.
