Super WHY! Reading Camps are five-day interactive learning adventures!

At Super WHY! Reading Camp, we show 4- and 5-year olds the power of reading and motivate them to play with letters, sounds and words through a comprehensive curriculum developed by noted literacy experts.  Twelve camps have been conducted by WHRO since the initiative began, reaching over 200 children.

In the summer of 2008, WHRO conducted its first Super WHY! Reading Camp at Fort Story Army Base's Child Development Center.  We participated in a study by Florida State University’s Center for Reading Research to identify the benefits of watching the Super WHY! television show and participating in the daily camp activities.  Campers showed gains in all of the literacy skills presented in the program, including an 84% gain in phonics skills and a 139% gain in word recognition skills.
