The Great Computer Challenge is a competition where students from schools across the region gather to demonstrate their skills in various computer applications and programming. They compete in different categories such as: Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, Internet Scavenger Hunt, Visual Programming/Block Coding Using Scratch Jr., Web Page Design, Desktop Presentations, Music Composition, Integrated Applications, Object Oriented Business Programming, Scientific/Non-Business Programming, CAD, and Video Editing.

Senior Great Computer Challenge (Grades 6-12)
March 9, 2024 @ Old Dominion University Webb Center

Junior Great Computer Challenge (Grades K-5)
April 27, 2024 @ Old Dominion University Webb Center

If you are able to come and help, you will receive a t-shirt, lunch and the warm fuzzy feeling of being part of such a wonderful event.

We need people all day starting at 7:00 am.

Here are your options for March 9, 2024 (grades 6-12):

Registration 7:00 am-9:30 am
Help teacher sponsors check in, pick up t-shirts and materials for their teams.

Early Monitor 8:00 am - 9:30 am
During the setup and rules review, monitor different areas of the building

Monitors 8:00 am-12:30 pm
Oversee the competition in each of the rooms. Pass out problems to the teams and announce beginning and ending times. Judges will be around for specific questions the students might have.

Runners 9:15 am-12:30 pm
Check on each competition room and run to get materials or find answers to questions the teams might have.

2nd Round of Monitors 11:30 am-3:30 pm
During the judging and awards ceremony, monitor different areas of the building. Bring a good book to read.

The place where we need the most help is monitors, but let us know what your time frame is and we'll fit you in where appropriate. 

In compliance with Old Dominion University's new "Minors on Campus" Policy, background checks are required for volunteers working directly with children.
