WHRO’s PBS Kids Raising Readers Literacy Van is a cheerful, brightly colored vehicle featuring children’s favorite PBS characters that tours throughout our broadcast region. Inside the van, children can find age appropriate books and games. WHRO Early Childhood Coordinator, Martha Razor, leads a project at each site that includes reading to the children and having them take the Reading Pledge.
Raising Readers Literacy Van Visits cover the following standards:
- Pre-K Comprehensive Standards: Foundation Blocks 1, 2, 3 and PALs assessment skills
- English Standards of Learning: K.1, K.5, K.8, 1.1, 1.8
"It was our pleasure to have you visit our school. The students were really excited about your presentation and are ready to READ, READ, READ!" -Mrs. Hayes, Park View Elementary School, Portsmouth
