WHRO Transmedia Initiative Kicks Off at Virginia Children's Festival
Join us on Saturday, October 4th, 2014, for The 26th Annual Virginia Children's Festival!
The Virginia Children's Festival takes place at Town Point Park in Norfolk from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and this year, our new Ready To Learn Transmedia Initiative kicks off there!
What is transmedia, you ask? For us, transmedia includes the high quality educational television shows, websites, online games, interactive whiteboard and smart phone applications developed by PBS, and we'll be using it to provide high need children and their families with a strong foundation to build lifelong learning success.
At the Festival, WHRO’s booth will be located right next to the main stage, featuring interactive whiteboards connected to PBS Kids Lab, monitors running clips from PBS Kids shows, and WHRO’s popular Cube Game, where all children win age appropriate books. Children and families can also enjoy special performances on the main stage and popular PBS Kids costume characters stopping by to visit, including Daniel Tiger and Super Why.
In addition to our booth at the Children's Festival, we’ll be integrating PBS's transmedia content into local before, after and summer school programs, and training parents and educators on how to use it in the classroom and at home. Our goal is to empower families and caregivers to take a more active role in the development of their children’s math and literacy skills.
Whether you’re young or young at heart, all ages are invited to come help celebrate Hampton Roads’ most beloved family festival. And if you’re interested in exploring new ways to keep kids learning, check out the entire library of Ready to Learn transmedia content on the PBS Kids Lab website.
