As part of our American Graduate: Let's Make It Happen initiative, WHRO Education staff teach Our Voices Digital Storytelling workshops at teacher trainings and local children's summer camps.
Children's summer camps are divided into two sessions. The first session helps students learn what digital storytelling is and how to use iPod Touches® to record audio and video. They also practice interviewing skills. Students work in teams and have several days to record video and audio on the iPod Touches. The second session focuses on how to narrate and edit the footage shot with Windows MovieMaker. These workshops give children a voice, allowing them to share their own personal stories with the world.
We also hold one-day teacher trainings, where we provide educators with the tools they need to incorporate digital storytelling into a lesson for their students. All of the projects created through these workshops can be found on our YouTube channel.
