When a teacher is looking to make lessons more engaging and excite students about learning, he or she turns to trusted resources like eMediaVA.  Developed by WHRO, eMediaVA is a digital media distribution system that offers Virginia educators the best purpose built educational content available in a “one-stop shop.”

eMediaVA provides teachers and students with tens of thousands of digital learning objects including video, audio, interactive and graphic elements from sources like PBS, NPR, The Smithsonian, NASA, The National Archives and Colonial Williamsburg.  The content is all correlated to Virginia’s Standards of Learning and the system is constantly evolving to better meet classroom needs.  Recently added features include the ability to share a learning object or playlist within a school, a school division, or across the entire state.

Over the past few months, this outstanding resource has become a two-time award winner.  In September, eMediaVA was presented with a Governor's Technology Award at a special ceremony at the Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology Symposium (COVITS) in Richmond.  The Governor's Technology Awards program recognizes public sector IT projects that have improved government service delivery and efficiency.  Winners were determined by a distinguished panel of information technology experts and eMediaVA was recognized for the innovative use of technology in education.

On October 21st, the National Educational Telecommunications Association honored eMediaVA at the 2013 NETA Conference in Atlanta.  The NETA Awards provide national recognition of excellence in public broadcasting in the areas of community engagement, promotion, instructional media and content creation.  eMediaVA received the award for Best Online Educational Resource in the Instructional Media class.

With more than 100,000 accounts created, eMediaVA is quickly becoming the premier statewide resource for Virginia educators.  WHRO is proud to offer this national award winning service free of charge to all teachers and students across the Commonwealth!
