Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, every Virginia student entering the 9th grade must complete at least one online course as a requirement for graduation. WHRO Education has developed a catalog of textbook independent online courses available to all Virginia schools covering core curriculum subjects, all correlated to Virginia's standards of learning.
Every course includes rich media infused, purpose built educational content, hundreds of digital learning objects, and a complete range of instructional and assessment modules, all of which can be customized and utilized within the framework of popular learning management systems such as Blackboard, D2L, Moodle and others. To allow for maximum flexibility, the courses can easily be used as stand-alone, fully online courses or to support face-to-face or blended classes. Once licensed, schools are free to modify the content as necessary.
Here is what teachers are saying about our Online Courses:
More and more school divisions are turning to online professional courses for a variety of reasons and WHRO has emerged as a leader in digital content needs of Virginia educators. The course offerings are readily available, convenient, interactive, self-paced, and, in the current economic restraints, cost-efficient, which in a small district we could never replicate the level of service and support WHRO offers.- Mrs. A. Katrise Perera,
Division Superintendent, Isle of Wight County Schools
The online courses created in collaboration with WHRO and HRETA represent exemplary instructional design that provides the interactivity students need in order to be successful.- James T. Roberts, Ph.D.,
Superintendent, Chesapeake Public Schools
